On June 30, 2025, the Faculty of Engineering, Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RUTS), Thailand, recently hosted a delegation from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Perlis, Malaysia, as part of a collaborative initiative to strengthen regional academic cooperation in hydrography and survey engineering.
The UiTM delegation led by Dr. Rohayu Haron Narashid, Head of Learning Centre and the academic representatives from the Faculty of Built Environment (FBE) was officially welcomed by Assoc. Prof. Surasit Rawangwong, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. The welcome was joined by RUTS Assistant to President for International Affairs, Dr. Lamun Kayurin, along with administrators, lecturers, and staff from the Faculty of Engineering and the International Affairs Office.
The visit marked a significant milestone with the joint signing of a Letter of Intent (LOI) titled βHydrography and Survey Collaboration,β which outlines a strategic plan to advance practical education, academic exchange, and collaborative research between the Faculty of Built Environment, UiTM Perlis, and the Faculty of Engineering, RUTS.
Key areas of collaboration include student mobility through participation in UiTMβs hydrography survey camps, where students will gain hands-on experience using Single Beam Echo Sounders (SBES), Differential GNSS (DGNSS), and Sound Velocity Profilers (SVP). The partnership also supports lecturer exchange through short-term guest lectures and teaching observations between the two faculties. In addition, both institutions will co-organize survey camps and short training programs in either Thailand or Malaysia. Participants in these activities will receive a certificate of completion, which may be used for internal credit transfer within RUTS academic programs.
The first collaborative activity is scheduled for late 2025 or early 2026, with future plans to expand into curriculum co-development, dual delivery, and potential MBES integration supported by industry partners.
This partnership represents a meaningful step toward enhancing hydrography skills, promoting student and staff mobility, and building a foundation for long-term academic cooperation between RUTS and UiTM.
